Southmont and North Montgomery each played their second golf match of the season Tuesday night and Southmont came away with its first win of the season.

Southmont, who played host to North Putnam and Rockville, won the triangle meet with a team score of 226. North Putnam shot a 236 and Rockville carded a 242. North Montgomery fell to Seeger in a duel meet, 193-207.

Heather Ruby led the Mounties for the second time in as many meets. This time she turned in a round of 47. Natalee Brann came on with a round of 57 to help out and Hali Foxworthy and Stazia Mikalik rounded out the scoring with 61s. Jordan Grino shot a 67 as the alternate.

For North Montgomery, it was Kennedy Bonwell and Megan Douglas that led the way with 46s. They played at Harrison Hills, where they started their season as well. Abbey Woodard contributed a 48 and Flannery Thompson completed the team effort with a 67.

"I thought our ball striking was good tonight, overall," Charger head coach Mark Shadiow said. "We hit a lot of fairways and kept the ball in play. We struggled a great deal from inside of 50 yards, which should be a scoring zone for us. Our putting still needs to improve as well. Our beginners on the team are getting some good experience and they will continue to improve as they compete and work hard on their games. Our scores came down from our tournament at the same course last week, which is a positive. I look for them to get even better as the girls gain confidence."

Southmont returns to action today with a trip to Danville to kick off their Sagamore Athletic Conference campaign. North Montgomery plays Thursday at South Putnam.

Crawfordsville was third in a triangle meet to open its season. They scored 247 to wind up behind Hamilton Heights (195) and Frankfort (244) Tuesday in Frankfort. Regina Go led the Athenians with a 53.

"We played well for the conditions," Crawfordsville head coach Roger Tribbett said. "We played without Katelyn Dixon tonight and overall I was pleased."
