MONTEZUMA-Crawfordsville's volleyball team is off to quite the start this season. They moved to 6-0 on the year with a straight-set win over Riverton Parke Tuesday night, 25-21, 25-14, 25-21.

"We're playing pretty well right now" coach Kelly Johnson said. "We're just trying to get better every time we hit the court. That's the important thing this time of year."

The Athenians are getting it done thanks to a group effort. Tuesday night Kim Hampton led the way with 11 kills, but Hannah Hungerford, Emily Cullen and Emily Seybold were all up there with six, four and four kills, respectively.

Hungerford led the way with 12 digs, while libero Lacey Garrett registered 11 and Hampton saved it seven times.

The tests will only get tougher for the Athenians as the season develops. They play host to Seeger Thursday before having the Athenian Invitational on Saturday. At the invite, they will be joined by Southmont, McCutcheon and Fishers.

A freshman tournament will occur simultaneously in the auxiliary gym at Crawfordsville.

The junior varsity team also won Tuesday, 25-15, 21-25, 15-10.
