A season-opening win against a non-conference opponent usually doesn't call for quite the celebration that happened at Crawfordsville Tuesday night. But after the Athenian's straight-set win over Rockville, there was plenty to go around. That was because head coach Kelly Johnson tallied her 500th career win with the school.

"It's nice but it's not why I do it," a humble Johnson said after the game. "I was proud of my girls tonight for coming out and getting their first win and that meant even more. To have that many wins at Crawfordsville - That's kind of fun too."

On the court, the Athenians dominated throughout. They won 25-11, 25-22 and 25-15. Kim Hampton spiked down 14 kills and Hannah Hungerford added 11. Defensively, Lacey Garrett was all over, registering 12 digs. Hungerford added eight digs.

"We're glad to be off to a good start," Johnson said. "We felt like the girls did well tonight for the first night out. They overcame the nerves and played some good volleyball."

The Athenians (1-0) will now turn their attention to a Thursday trip to Greencastle.
