Crawfordsville finished 2-3 Saturday at the John Willems Memorial Super Duals at Hanover Central.

The Athenians lost their opening match to Crown Point, 60-13. They then beat Boone Grove 59-15 and Wheeler 48-22 to close pool play. They lost to Hanover Central (41-27) and Hammond Gavit (48-36) to close the day.

Skylar Crum, Robert Manns, and Nathan Bean finished the day 5-0.

"Nathan Bean really showed improvement today, winning a couple of tough matches in the third period. He's really coming around," Crawfordsville head coach Chris Ervin said. "Skylar Crum also had a great day and just keeps getting better every meet. Robert was consistently solid, as he has been all season for us. Tyler Bilyeu had another good day, only losing to a state ranked wrestler from Crown Point."

"We had a rough day, but the kids wrestled well. Deontace Peete and Jarrett Janssen both came down with the flu and were not able to wrestle all day. Jonah Shillings suffered a concussion in round 2 and was out for the rest of the day," Ervin said. "We were already forfeiting 152, so we basically had to forfeit 4 weight classes most of the day. It's tough to start out 24 points down, but our kids battled. We wrestled the No. 5 (overall) team in the state in Crown Point, and didn't back down from them. At the end of the day, we were very competitive with Hanover Central and Gavit, but just couldn't dig out of the hole we were in."

Crawfordsville (10-9) will wrestle a dual at Fountain Central on Thursday and be home on Saturday for the Athenian Invitational.
