Cross Country All-Sagamore

Lady Chargers own Sagamore
Sunday, October 5, 2014 7:51 PM
NEW MARKET-North Montgomery's girls' cross country team fought through chilly temperatures and cutting winds Saturday morning to win the Sagamore Athletic Conference race in deciding fashion. They tallied 34 team points, well ahead of second-place Frankfort's 82.
Crawfordsville's Maddy Hurt, a freshman, was the individual winner of the girls race with a time of 21:22. Neither Crawfordsville nor Southmont fielded a full girl's team.
"I couldn't be more excited, happy, and proud, both for and of this team," Charger head coach Mike Myers said. "They put in the hours over the summer, and during the season, and they are the ones that should get all of the credit. Each and every girl out-performed their goal time, as well as their places, especially runners 5-7 (McDole, Emerick, and Weliever). I knew the Heides, Clark, and Pinkard would be near the top, but it was our back half that finished the job. This is the first conference championship in a running sport for North (boys or girls) since 1996, and the girls knew that, and believed that they could end that streak. I'm lucky to have a group of girls that perform each and every time they come to a meet, whether big or small. To have six All-Conference runners is really a treat, because they performed so well, now let's hope that carries into sectionals."
