DANVILLE - The Crawfordsville girls' basketball team traveled to Danville Tuesday night and nearly upset the 11-4 Warriors. Danville held on for a 53-45 win.

The Athenians entered the Sagamore Athletic Conference contest with a 7-7 record. They let a big run from Danville bury them in an early hole as the Warriors went to the break with a 27-16 advantage.

Crawfordsville came out of the break and outscored Danville in the third quarter and played them even in the fourth, ultimately unable to complete the comeback.

Lacey Garrett led Crawfordsville with 19 points. Maleha Motter led all scorers with 22 for the Warriors. Erika Brooks and Kim Hampton each pitched in eight points for Crawfordsville.

The Athenians (7-8) will return to action Saturday when they return home for a game against Clinton Prairie. The girls will open a girl / boy double header at 6 p.m.
