  • Host Hot Dogs get by Chargers
    Friday, March 6, 2015 7:36 PM
FRANKFORT - North Montgomery's basketball season came to abrupt end Saturday evening thanks to the hot hand of the Frankfort Hot Dogs. The Hot Dogs hit 51 percent of their field goals, including 61 percent, 11-of-18, from beyond the arc to upend the Chargers, 71-64.

The Chargers shot the ball well themselves. They shot 54 percent, 26-48, but they were just 28 percent from distance, 5-18.

"We didn't come into tonight expecting them to hit 11 threes, and hit 61 percent from the 3-point line," said Charger coach Joel Grindle. "It's a pretty tough pill to swallow when they shoot that well."

Frankfort-Crawfordsville ran into a buzz saw Friday evening at Case Arena, in the form of the Frankfort Hot Dogs. The Hot Dogs were the aggressor, as they dominated every statistic, and the game, pulling away from the Athenians 88-45.

"I was thoroughly impressed with Frankfort's aggressiveness the entire game, especially rebounding and on the offensive end," commented Athenian coach David Pierce. "We committed 23 fouls, and I think it was because of their ability to take the ball to the basket."

Frankfort jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead. However, Trent Johnson would hit two three's, which sandwiched a Jarrod Smith bucket for Frankfort, and knotted the game at six. From there, Frankfort closed the half on a 16-1 run, to lead 22-7 after one.

FRANKFORT -- Crawfordsville travels to Frankfort Friday evening looking to build upon their recent success. They enter, having won three of their last five, and have seen major improvements in all facets of their game.

"It took us half the season for guys to figure some things out," said Athenian mentor David Pierce. "The guys are coming together as a team, and team chemistry is much better.

"It wasn't anything negative," continued Pierce. "They just didn't know one another and hadn't played together. But, it's starting to go in the right direction."

The Hot Dogs (5-10, 1-2 SAC) enter on a two-game slide, with losses to Lafayette Central Catholic and 4A Zionsville. They are led in scoring by junior Jarrod Smith, who averages nearly 17 points per game. Senior Luis Medina and sophomore Carter Taylor average 10.4 and 8.1 respectively.
