FRANKFORT - The Crawfordsville Lady Athenians played perhaps one of their best quarters, and maybe halves, of the season Friday in Frankfort. Unfortunately, their strong play wasn't enough in the end, as the Hot Dogs celebrated their Senior Night with a 61-51 win.

Crawfordsville committed just two turnovers in the first quarter, shot 75 percent, 8-of-12, from the field, which included 80 percent, 4-of-5, from beyond the arc. Erika Brooks was a perfect 4of-4 in the quarter, with two 3-point baskets to lead the team with 10. Lacey Garrett chipped in eight.

Frankfort, on the other hand, shot 70 percent in the first quarter, including 67 percent from long range, which helped keep them in it. They trailed 21-16 after one.

Crawfordsville opened up a 9-point lead halfway through the second quarter, on a three by Emily Seybold. However, Frankfort would close the half on a 12-3 run. Taylor Kirby scored 9 of her 11 points during the run, which allowed Frankfort to tie things up at 33 going into halftime.

"Our defense was absent without leave tonight," said Athenian coach Tony Thomas. "We had the nine point lead in the second quarter, and quit playing defense."

The Athenians offense slowed in the second half. Frankfort extended their defensive pressure, and the Athenians hot hand in the first half went cold. The Hot Dogs would outscore them 28-18 to pull out the 10-point victory.

"18 points in the second half won't cut it," added Thomas. "We didn't convert on layups, and we had a couple put back opportunities that we missed.

"In the first half, I felt we made the extra pass," continued Thomas. "In the second half, we didn't make the extra pass, which I think hurt."

The Athenians (11-9, 2-4 SAC) had three in double digits. Garrett finished with 18, Brooks 13 and Seybold 11. The Athenians were outrebounded by the taller Hot Dogs 32-17.

Frankfort (11-10, 3-3 SAC) had two in double figures. They were led by Tania Olivas 12 and Kirby's 11. Cassidy Dubree and Jacenda Perry each finished with 9.

One bright spot for the Athenians occurred in the fourth quarter, on a three by Seybold. The assist from Garrett tied Lexi Stevens career assists mark. She will have the opportunity to break the record on Tuesday.

The Lady Athenians added Hamilton Heights to their schedule late last week. They'll entertain the Huskies on Tuesday. JV game time is 6 p.m.
