BLOOMINGTON - Josh Baugh pulled off a couple of surprises Friday night, just like Sugar Creek Swim Club coach Mark Hesse thought he would.

Baugh advanced to finals in two of his events and came away with two top-25 finishes at Friday's Senior State Long Course Meters Championships at IU-Bloomington.

Baugh made the 100-meter freestyle finals and finished 21st overall (54.90 seconds), then made the 100 breaststroke finals and finished 23rd overall (1:11.91).

An incoming DePauw University junior, Baugh tied for 20th with Nathan Hopkins (VIPR) in the 100 freestyle preliminaries (54.48 seconds) to advance to the "C" final.

Baugh finished fifth out of eight swimmers in that final.

He placed 25th in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries, finishing in 1:10.85 and advancing to the "C" final. He finished seventh out of eight swimmers in that final.

Team member Nick Stevens placed 55th in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 56.59 seconds. Ben Baugh placed 73rd in 57.97 seconds.

Sugar Creek Swim Club's 800 freestyle boys relay finished 21st out of 29 teams.

Josh Baugh, Ben Watkins, Ben Baugh and Nick Stevens swam the event in 8:42.20 - more than four seconds faster than their seed time.

On the girls side, Emily McIlrath finished 15th in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries (1:16.51) and made the finals.

But she didn't swim in them because she had to attend a family reunion.

It would have been the second straight night McIlrath had made the finals. She finished 16th in Thursday's 50 freestyle.

Incoming Crawfordsville High School senior Missy Robinson placed 36th in the 400 individual medley preliminaries, finishing in 5:34.07.

She beat her seed time by more than 3½-seconds.

Robinson also placed 73rd in the 100 freestyle, finishing the event in 1:03.71.
