The Indiana Thunder baseball teams are hosting an indoor sale on Saturday to help cover the costs of their upcoming travel seasons. The merchandise will be re-sale items from the homes of the players on the teams. The sale will be at the Boys and Girls Club on Saturday, March 23 from 8:00 am -1:00 pm. Also available will also be the area-famous Zach's Coney dogs. The secret-recipe coney dogs were a famous staple in Zach's restaurant that closed 16 years ago in Crawfordsville. Many locals remember and miss the unique taste.

The Indiana Thunder, a travel baseball organization, began as an idea of a few Crawfordsville area baseball enthusiasts who wanted to create an opportunity for adolescents to play competitive summer baseball at a reasonable cost and distance to travel.

From that brainstorming session, there are now over 60 boys have that summer baseball dream come true. This is the second year for the Indiana Thunder, which is comprised of five teams; 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U Blue and 16U Red. The rosters are made up of players from West Central Indiana. Many are from right here in Montgomery County, but others heard of the great organization and tried out for the team from places like Brownsburg, Noblesville and Lebanon.

Players are chosen based on talent, drive and dedication. Unfortunately, dedication alone doesn't pay for uniforms, equipment, tournament fees, field maintenance, and off-season training. Often players are not able to secure the funds necessary to cover the cost required to complete at this level. Many fundraising and sponsorship projects are underway.

This is the second season to try the re-sale of goods. The players and families all pitch in to donate household items that they no longer need and help set up and re-sale the merchandise.

"It's a win-win situation," says Indiana Thunder board member Steve Baldwin. "The organization makes a little money, the families clean out their houses and people can find some really great bargains. Last year, we had some people who came specifically just to get some coneys for lunch and ended up finding some neat things too."

The travel season usually begins in early June and wraps up in early August. For more information on the Indiana Thunder organization, visit their website at
