Each Montgomery County boys' basketball team will be in action this weekend against a Sagamore Athletic Conference opponent.

North Montgomery

The Chargers start their weekend with one of the toughest tests in the league when Class 3A No. 8 Tri-West visits.

The Bruins (17-3, 5-1 SAC) will finish second in the conference with a win. The Chargers (12-8, 4-2 SAC) need to win to split a share of second. If Crawfordsville can find a way to upset Danville and Tri-West wins, the Hendricks County neighbors will share the conference title.

North Montgomery is coming off a weekend split where they lost to Frankfort on the road and dominated Riverton Parke at home. The Bruins won this matchup last season, 80-45. They have won eight of the last 15 meetings over the last 30 years.

On Saturday, the Chargers will play host to Attica (8-8). The Red Ramblers recently lost to Crawfordsville, 61-53. North Montgomery has won 15 of the last 24 meetings between the two teams and are the favorites on paper this time around as well.

Crawfordsville

The Athenians just have one game this weekend. They got a win on Tuesday over Attica. The Athenians (6-14, 1-5 SAC) will travel to Class 3A No. 6 Danville (16-3, 6-0 SAC). The Warriors can clinch the Sagamore crown if they win on Friday.

The Athenians have only defeated the Warriors one time in the last 30 years. That win came on Feb. 16, 2007. Crawfordsville has dropped four of its last six games and will need to compete to build momentum going into the sectional. Things won't get much easier in the season finale. They'll close against Class A No. 1 Covington on Feb. 27.

Southmont

The Mounties are looking to avoid as historic skid. They've lost 10 straight games, matching a slide in the 2008-09 season. The most they've lost in the last two decades was 12 straight in the 2006-07 season.

Southmont (4-14, 0-6 SAC) starts the weekend at home against Greencastle (11-8). The Tiger Cubs are coming off of a 66-48 win over Northview. Southmont lost to Cloverdale in its last outing.

Greencastle won this game at home last year, 59-43.

Frankfort will visit New Market on Saturday for a Sagamore battle. The Hot Dogs (8-12, 3-3 SAC) are coming off of a win last Thursday against North Montgomery. They have dominated the series, 22-9 in the last 31 meetings.

Both teams will be tuning up for the sectionals, with Frankfort playing host to the Class 3A sectional and Southmont playing host to the Class 2A sectional.

It will be a race for momentum for both squads.

All games are slated for 6 p.m. junior varsity starts. Varsity action follows.
