  • Frankfort gets hot, beats North
    Tuesday, April 28, 2015 9:01 PM

The North Montgomery softball team kept close with Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Frankfort at home on Tuesday, but the Hot Dogs got going late to win 17-3 in six innings.

Frankfort put up three runs in the first two innings, but North responded with a pair in the home half of the second. Even as the Hot Dogs exploded for four runs in the third, the Chargers answered with one of their own.

Frankfort put the game away with a run in the fourth, three in the fifth and six in the sixth.

North had just five hits, with two of them coming from Cheyenne Warren. Kirsten Southwood had a triple and two RBIs and Ashlynn Voorhees drove in a run and scored one.

North Montgomery and Frankfort meet again Thursday on Hot Dog turf.

CJ Adams will be the new softball coach at North Montgomery, pending school board approval. The decision was announced Tuesday by North Montgomery athletic director Matt Merica.

"Coach Adams will bring a new energy to the softball program," Merica said. "He has experience coaching at the lower levels and is familiar with the current roster. I am excited about the direction of the program."

Adams replaces Sarah Cearing, who departed to teach and coach at Frankfort after last season. The Chargers were 1-24 last season.

"I'm happy to be taking over the softball program. I have coached several of the girls in summer leagues and know that we have some talent, but that we need to improve in some areas as well," Adams said in a release from North Montgomery. "Our focus will be on fundamentals and striving to make the softball program better each day. We are no longer looking in the past. We are taking steps toward future progress."
