CICERO-Southmont went 1-1 Saturday at the Hamilton Heights boys soccer invitational. The Mounties lost 6-1 to the host Huskies in the opener. They then defeated Tri-Central in a shootout after the game ended 2-2.

Malik Gayler tallied the coal against Hamilton Heights. Devin Miller made eight saves.

"This game was extremely physical and I don't think we were awake yet," head coach Brandon Rash said. "There were good spots, but also many bad spots. Our physicality has improved but it seems our communication has dropped.

Lucas Turner and Nathan Bowers scored in regulation of the second game.

Mikal Farabee and Bowers scored in the before Gayler scored to end it. Miller made five saves in regulation and two in the shootout.

"It was a very competitive game overall. We fought really hard and really tried to keep the ball on our offensive end," Rash said. "Nathan Bowers and Lucas Turner really stepped up as seniors. They're getting to the next level."

McCutcheon defeated Hamilton Heights 3-2 in the championship.

Southmont (3-6) will entertain Frankfort in New Market Tuesday.
