Southmont makes the short trip to Veedersburg, Ind. to face Fountain Central in each team’s season opener on Aug. 19.

The Mounties broke the Mustangs four-game winning streak in the rivalry last season with a 21-20 win, and will look to make it two years in a row this season.

Southmont was able to put the ball in the end zone in its Aug. 12 scrimmage against Greencastle. Sophomore quarterback Hunter Chadwick had an impressive debut with a touchdown pass.

“We’ve got a lot of new position players,” Southmont head coach Desson Hannum said. “We have a new quarterback, and we’re just trying to find the right 11 to play on both sides of the football.”

Fountain Central senior left guard Sam Adams is looking for his team to finish drives, something they didn’t do in last season’s one-point loss to the Mounties.

“It would be great to come out with a win in our season opener.” Adams said. “We left a few plays out on the field last season, so we will need to finish drives by scoring to come out on top.”

The Mounties and Mustangs are tied at 10-10 in their overall series. The winner of Friday night will start their season off on the right foot. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Fountain Central.
