In a press release Wednesday, Crawfordsville Director of Athletics Bryce Barton announced Crawfordsville High School will be hiring Kurt Schlicher as their Head Football Coach at next Thursday evening’s monthly school board meeting. Schlicher most recently had been Assistant to the football, girls’ basketball, and baseball programs at McCutcheon High School, while also serving as a Social Studies Teacher at McCutcheon.
“Crawfordsville High School is excited about bringing Kurt Schlicher on board to serve as head football coach. Kurt will bring a lot of energy and passion to this position. He has a great football mind having coached on either side of the football for over 25 years. His experience of coaching multiple sports should help in the process of trying to get more multi-sport athletes here at CHS,” said Barton.
A 1987 graduate of North Montgomery High School, Schlicher was a three-sport standout for the Chargers. He went on to scholarship to Indiana State University to play baseball for the Sycamores. Schlicher was a member of the football coaching staff at North Montgomery during their IHSAA State Championship runs of 1995 and 1996. Schlicher also had two stints at McCutcheon and Lafayette Jeff High School where he served as both their offensive and defensive coordinators.
“Kurt is the type of teacher/coach who develops a great rapport with his student athletes. He pushes them to be successful on and off the field. As someone from Montgomery County, he knows the history of Crawfordsville Football and wants to see it return to its past success,” Barton stated.
