HARTFORD CITY – The football season came to an end for Montgomery County Friday with North Montgomery’s 38-0 loss to Blackford in the Section 26 Semifinal.
The Chargers knew they were facing a potent rushing attack coming in and Blackford proved its power with five rushing touchdowns Friday. With under four minutes to go in the first, Blackford back Isaac Justice punched in a 1-yard score to give the Bruins a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
The Chargers nearly held going into the second quarter, but with less than a minute to go before the break the Bruins found a hole. Jacob Deavers scampered for a 49-yard rush to make the lead 13. Austen Lancaster added a 4-yard rushing score and Justice broke a 47-yard score to put Blackford up 28-0 at the half.
Deavers’ second score of the night was a 26-yard rush and a field goal set the final.
The Chargers finish their season at 4-7. The Chargers were the only county football team to advance to the sectional semifinal this season. Blackford moves to 8-3 and will travel to Brebeuf for the sectional championship on Friday. Brebeuf defeated Guerin Catholic 20-10 Friday.
