  • South gives Tri-West run for money
    Tuesday, September 8, 2015 11:09 PM

South battled three matches with Tri-West but couldn’t pull out the wins. The Bruins took three 25-23, 25-16, 25-15.

The Mounties kept rallying but lost the rallies. The first one started when their first set changed course after an 8-0 lead by the Bruins. With an ace from Kaylee VanCleave and a kill from Brittany Barrett, the Mounties were back in the game 11-8. The battle was neck and neck as the Mounties slowly started catching up until it was tied at 19-19. Barrett tipped the ball to the middle hole to pull up 20-19.

The Sagamore Athletic Conference All-Conference teams were announced this week for volleyball.

North Montgomery, by virtue of winning a share of the conference title, received two first team nods. Senior hitter Lindzy Sabens and libero Brook Karle represented the Chargers.

The only other first team selection for Montgomery County went to Lacey Garrett, of Crawfordsville. Garrett was a senior libero this season.

  • Chargers share Sagamore
    Thursday, October 16, 2014 7:39 PM
LIZTON -- It would be hard to imagine a more fitting way to claim a share of the Sagamore Athletic Conference title than how North Montgomery achieved it Thursday.

They took to the road and battled for five sets to take a win over Tri-West and earn a share of the conference title with Western Boone and Lebanon. The three teams finished with 6-1 records in the Sagamore.

"It's a wonderful feeling. It's awesome," North Montgomery head coach Jodi Webster said. "It's been a great week and it's a great way to end this week."

With things knotted at two sets apiece, the Chargers needed to score just 15 points to win the fifth set and share the conference crown.

    But it wasn't easy.

There were moments of promise, but the consistency was lacking for the Crawfordsville volleyball team in a 3-1 loss to Tri-West Monday night.

"Tri-West has some nice hitters. I knew they were going to be some pretty tough competition for us," Crawfordsville head coach Kelly Johnson said. "We are still trying to work on the mental aspect of the game. The gym was quiet tonight, but we have to be the ones to play well enough to get the gym excited. This is one of those growing pains."

The Athenians were competitive in both of the first two sets, but had to play catch-up after slow starts. They dropped both of the first two sets, 25-16, 25-22.
