Zaira Hernandez and the Lady Athenians have their eyes on the next prize - a sectional.
It wasn't the performance they wanted. But the final still went in their favor.

That was the story for the No. 16 Crawfordsville girls' soccer team in a 3-0 win over Sagamore Athletic Conference foe Western Boone Wednesday.

"I thought Western Boone dominated the game, especially first half possession," Crawfordsville head coach Brent Bokhart said. "We put our chances away, but those chances were few and far between."

Hannah Whicker added to her record total for career goals with two in the first half. She was assisted by Mia Katzenberger and Reilly Dunham.

Dunham scored on a penalty kick in the second half.

"We've been preaching the last couple games on winning the 50/50 balls. We've been playing too reactive. We didn't challenge enough," Bokhart added. "The possession was there for them, but we did a good job of limiting actual shots when they got inside."

The Lady Athenians finish the regular season with a record of 11-3-2. They will take on North Montgomery Monday at the Greencastle sectional No. 44. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

"We're taking it one game at a time. That's been the approach all season," Bokhart said.
