FRANKFORT – The Western Boone and North Montgomery softball teams faced off in the first Sectional 25 match up Monday. The Stars shot ahead with clutch hitting and a 3-hitter from the pitching staff to get the win 19-2 after five innings.

“We adjusted to the pitching,” Star coach Mike Vanderpool said. “We finally sat back, waited, adjusted and we got hits.”

Three hits and four runs started off the first inning for the Stars while a Becca Adams double could not start anything for the Chargers.

Western Boone kept chipping away, putting the nail in the coffin with nine runs in the final fifth inning.

Five Stars had multiple hits with Camryn Savage and Taylor Vanderpool having three hits a piece and Briley Burns and Julia Hole with four RBIs a piece.

Coach Vanderpool said it builds confidence for the players.

“Hopefully we can carry that confidence into tomorrow night,” he said. “We got to hit the ball against Frankfort. We got to match them run for run.”

Adams led the Chargers going 2-for-3 hitting in North’s two runs in their small rally in the bottom of the fifth.

Charger coach C.J. Adams said it was good to see her show leadership for next year. He added they had good hits but could not punch it through.

“We hit the ball solid, it’s just right to them,” he said. “The first at-bat Taylor Dyson had, nine out of ten a pitcher doesn’t make that play.”

Dyson’s shot snagged by pitcher Olivia Hole to start off the game did not bode well for the Chargers.

Hole and Heather Clark gave up three hits total on the night. Vic Neideffer had the third hit for North. Katharyn Sabens got the loss for North while Morgan Hayes came in relief in the fourth.

The Chargers ended their season 1-22.

Cheyenne Warren, Neideffer and Kennedy Weliever were the seniors for the Chargers.

“I’ve worked with them three since they were little,” Adams said. “I hate for it to be there last game. I’ll miss them.”
