Turnovers crowded the stat book for the Athenians to doom their effort to a 74-22 loss to the visiting Western Boone Stars.

A decent first half was followed by the Athenians collapsing under Stars pressure. They had a half-court 1-3-1 press running for most of the game. This allowed WeBo to steal 40 possessions from C’ville.

“It was the same outcome as earlier in season,” Athenian coach Tony Thomas said. “It was 6-4 in the first quarter and then they pressed the turnover button.

C’ville’s eight-point first quarter would be their highest scoring quarter while Western Boone would run away with 21 points in the next quarter.

Star (and previous SCC MVP) Rachel Ramey led with a game-high of 25 points. Madison Jones came in with 19. Jazmine Hall led the Athenians with 8 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

“They are a good team and they run a pretty good press,” Thomas said.

This puts Crawfordsville at 0-5 in the conference, 1-18 overall. WeBo is now tied for fourth with North Montgomery at 3-1 in SAC. They stand at 12-5 on the season.

C’ville will be up next Tuesday against Brebeuf.

“Brebeuf just got upset by Tri-West,” Thomas said. “They have a good point guard who handles the ball extremely well. But, they are one-dimensional so I hope we can duplicate what Tri-West did.”
