    The excitement was palpable Saturday at the Crawfordsville Aquatic Center. The host Athenians were capturing the sectional swimming title and with each event it became more and more of a sure thing.

    Crawfordsville ended up swimming away with the meet, gathering 401 points, greatly out-distancing second-place Western Boone (307) and third-place Twin Lakes (302.

    The preliminary swims are complete and the sectional finals are set. All three Montgomery County boys' swimming teams saw action Thursday at Crawfordsville as the fields were determined for Saturday's finals.

    Crawfordsville earned the most swims in the finals for county schools with 19. North Montgomery will have 11 swims in the finals and Southmont earned eight.

    The Western Boone Stars topped the Fountain Central Mustangs 92-84 in their final dual boys' swim meet tonight. The meet was close, finished with an eight point difference. Western Boone placed first in seven out of the eleven events.

    The Western Boone swim team celebrated Senior Night for their senior swimmers tonight against Lebanon. The Stars boys' team won 113-66, and the girls lost 101-84.

  • Athenians capture boys' Sagamore swim and dive crown

    Thanks to their depth and execution, the Crawfordsville boys are the Sagamore Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving champions. They edged North Montgomery 391-299 Saturday at Crawfordsville to take first place. Western Boone was a third with 279 points. Southmont clocked in at seventh, with 164 points. On the girls' side, Lebanon was the class of the field. Their 356 points edged Danville's 351.5 and was well ahead of third-place North Montgomery's 270.5. Crawfordsville was seventh (225) and Southmont eighth (131).

  • Athenians tankers split with WeBo

    Crawfordsville and Western Boone split a co-ed swim meet Tuesday night. The Stars won the girls' portion, 100-77, while the Athenians won the boys', 105-75.

    Katelyn Dixon got two wins for the girls. She won the 200-yard IM (2:40.25) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:17.30). Zoe Harp also picked up a win for the girls in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:54.51.

    The Athenians swept the diving events. Caleb Whicker won the boys' event (230.40) and Jayde Miller won the girls' (167.30).

    Thomas Fairfield won the 50-yard freestyle (23.57) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.27). Sam Malott (500-yard freestyle, 5:42.19) and Juan Huesca (100-yard freestyle, 52.47) added wins for the Crawfordsville boys.

    The boys also won the 200-yard medley relay. The girls picked up a relay win in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

    The Athenians hit the water again Thursday at Seeger.

    The North Montgomery boys' and girls' swim teams faced off in a meet against conference opponent Western Boone Tuesday night, and both teams won 99-86 and 96-86.

    On the girls' side, Kaitlin Townsend won the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle, Lauren Odle won the 100 yard backstroke, and Lillia Mitchell won the 100 yard butterfly. Ashlynn Bennett won diving as well Austin Whitlock for the boy's side. Also on the boys side there were champions in Gus Maxwell in the 200 freestyle, Luke spencer in the 200 IM, and Javan Barton in the 100 freestyle.
