Sammy White and the Mounties just about stole one.
NEW MARKET-It would have been quite the upset. And for a while it looked like it might go that way. But when the gym went quiet at Southmont Thursday night, Western Boone swept the Mounties on the volleyball court. The sets went 25-15, 25-23, 25-6 in Western Boone's favor.

After dropping the opening set, Southmont grabbed an 8-4 lead in the second. The Stars knotted it up at 8-8 but the Mounties stole the momentum again with a big block by Veda Emerson. She had two blocks on the night. The set was back and forth until Western Boone made a final run and ended the upset hopes. The Stars went on a run of 18-1 the close the final set.

"That second game we played really well. To lead Western Boone in itself is a job," head coach Erin Barry. "We just need to put a full night together like that. We were minus a few players on Tuesday and this is a different rotation. We will continue to work on getting them in a set rotation.

Breanna Mason had 12 assists on the night. Abby Bullerdick led the team with six kills with Sammy White right behind her with four. Kaiti Chadd had nine digs to go along with six from Brittany Barrett.

Southmont (1-1) will travel to Greencastle Tuesday.
