Frederick “Rick” Yates

Frederick L. “Rick” Yates, 75, Linden, passed away Monday at Franciscan Health East in Lafayette.

Born Sept. 30, 1946 in Covington, Ind., the son of Frederick L. Yates Sr. and Pauline (Hopper) Yates.

Mr. Yates worked at Purdue University before owning his own heating & cooling company that served facilities and residential homes. He was a teacher of his trade and had countless students over the years- many of which kept in contact long after the course had ended.

Mr. Yates was happiest when he was helping others. One example of his servant’s heart was his work in the van & helps ministry at his church. His hobbies were woodworking, metal artistry and reading. Most of all, he enjoyed befriending his neighbors and loving his family.

Mr. Yates was an Army Ranger and also served in the National Guard. He was a member of White Horse Christian Center in West Lafayette.

Survivors include his wife, Mary June (Johnson) Yates; two sons, Chad and Jonathan Yates; two daughters, Rachel Johnson-Yates and Stacey Yates; as well as six grandchildren.

Visitation is 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville, Ind. Services will begin at 1 p.m. led by Pastor Jeff Johns. Burial will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Waveland.
