Janice L. Rogers Kunkel

Aug. 7, 1943 – Nov. 16, 2021

Janice L. Rogers Kunkel, 78, New Richmond, passed away, surrounded by loved ones, at 9:09 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 in Whitlock Place of Crawfordsville.

She was born in Indianapolis on Aug. 7, 1943, daughter of the late Boyd O. and Alma Banta Rogers.

Mrs. Kunkel was a 1961 graduate of Coal Creek Central High School. She then attended Rudea’s School of Beauty Culture in Lafayette and worked as a beautician for several years. She returned to college and earned her LPN at Ivy Tech. She was employed several years at Lane House in Crawfordsville and retired from Dr. Carpenter’s office in Lafayette in 1986. She married Roger A. Kunkel Sept. 9, 1962 in Osgood and he survives.

Mrs. Kunkel was a long time member of the former New Richmond United Methodist Church, where she served as pianist and Sunday school teacher. Currently she was a member of Church of Abundant Faith. She enjoyed playing the piano and being Nana to her family. Mrs. Kunkel was a staunch supporter and seldom missed her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors include her husband, Roger; two daughters, Lisa (Mark) Bandy of Crawfordsville and Michelle Kunkel of Fishers; three grandchildren, Britta (Eric) Frye, Derek Hampton and Haley Hampton; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Sally (Keith) Scott of New Richmond; a brother, R. Max (Beverly) Rogers of Waynetown; two sister-in-laws, Janet Brown of New Richmond and Martha Rogers of Crawfordsville; nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Scott in 1989; and brother, James Rogers.

Visitation hours are 12 – 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, with funeral services immediately following at 3 p.m., with Pastor John Pettigrew officiating at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Graveside services will follow in New Richmond Cemetery.
