Marvin Jay Ramsay

Marvin Jay Ramsay, Crawfordsville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021 at IU Health University Hospital.

He was born June 1, 1940 in Putnam County to the late Everett Ray “Joe” Ramsay and Effie Lavern “Sue” Sutherlin Ramsay. 

Mr. Ramsay graduated from Russellville High School in 1958. In 1963 he graduated from Purdue in Ag Economics. He married Darlene Graham on Oct. 11, 1964.  She survives.

He was a member of the Russellville Community Church, Alamo Masonic Lodge where he was a Past Master and 50 year member, Crawfordsville York Rite, Murat Shrine as a 50 year member, Russellville American Legion, Crawfordsville Elks where he was Past Exalted Ruler, John Purdue Club, Ducks Unlimited where he was Treasurer for 10 years, former member of Crawfordsville Country Club and 4-H member and adult leader. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1992.

Mr. Ramsay retired from IMC Agrico after 35 years of service selling fertilizer covering Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky. He managed several fertilizer plants in Indiana. Since his retirement, he’s been selling Specialty Seeds. He owned Double R Farm Supply and had a farming operation that he loved dearly, especially his cows. He was especially proud of his grandson, Hunter Ramsay, for helping with the family farm. He enjoyed attending sports activities to watch his other grandson, Carter Hubble. He had breakfast and coffee with friends every morning. He liked fishing trips with his favorite buddies, ski trips with family and special friends as well as many vacations over the years with family. He especially enjoyed trips to Hilton Head with his beloved wife. He and Darlene enjoyed dancing for many years.  They looked forward to attending a dance every weekend somewhere with their special group.  They performed at dance competitions with the Arthur Murray studio. They were proud of their trophies.  Mr. Ramsay made friends everywhere he went and could make them laugh through his witty and charming personality.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; son, Chad (Erica) Ramsay; daughter, Rochelle (Bill) Hubble; sister, Mary Lou (Dick) Graham; grandsons, Hunter Ramsay and Carter Hubble; sisters-in-law, Joan Collier and Linda Graham; nieces, Dondra (Brad) Wininger, Robin (Jeff) Dean, Tracey (Scott) Andres; nephews, Craig Graham, Eric Finitzer and David (Allie) Collier; and brother-in-law, Butch (Barb) Graham.

Visitation will be at Burkhart Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, concluding with Masonic rites. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, led by one of his coffee buddies, Pastor Mark Roberts. Burial will follow at Sutherlin Cemetery in Putnam County.
