Single Vehicle, Semi Involved in Crash with Train

A semi tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle were involved in a crash with a CSX train at the junction of Nucor Road and County Road 300 S this past Tuesday

At approximately 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Douglas Keeling, 62, of Crawfordsville and one unnamed passenger were travelling south on Nucor Road in a 1999 Toyota Camry when Keeling began slowing down to stop for train crossing lights and arms. As Keeling slowed, a semi tractor-trailer driven by David Millard, 31, of Wisconsin struck his Camry from behind. As a result, both vehicles came to a rest partially on the tracks.

As the vehicles rested on the tracks, a CSX train struck both vehicles. The semi-trailer was pushed off the railroad and overturned, leaving a significant amount of debris on the roadway.

Keeling, Millard and Millard’s passenger all refused medical treatment at the scene; none were transported to a hospital by ambulance.

Millard was cited for failure to stop at a railroad crossing.
