Phillip Eugene Sorrels

June 12, 1937-October 26, 2022

Phillip Eugene Sorrels, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022.

He was born on June 12, 1937 in Crawfordsville to Dwight and Bertha (Douglas) Sorrels.

After graduating from Alamo High School, Mr. Sorrels enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1958. Returning to the Crawfordsville area, he married and raised his family, attended Freedom Baptist Church, worked as a hoist operator and retired from R.R Donnelley & Sons with 37 years of service. He resided the last few years at the Indiana Veteran’s Home in West Lafayette.

Mr. Sorrels was a stranger to no one and made friends wherever he went, often meeting up at the Snacker diner for breakfast and stories. He remained close with childhood schoolmates throughout his life and delighted in telling the same bad jokes to all, as though each rendition was for the first time.

Survivors include his 4 children Greg (Christie) Sorrels of Lawrence, Debi Rose of New Ross, Scott (Carletta) Sorrels of North Carolina and Rachel (Alan) Metsker of Crawfordsville; sister Nancy Graham of Washington; 2 nephews Doug (Pam) of Tennessee and Stuart (Mitzi) of Wash.; niece Laura Archer (Bob) of Wash.; 10 grandchildren Josh (Emmy) Sorrels, Mike Sorrels, Sydney Wilmoth, J.D.
