Visit The Mary Bishop Memorial Gallery

The Mary Bishop Memorial Gallery at the Crawfordsville District Public Library would like to invite the public to view a new exhibit. The Celebrate Our Creative Community exhibit is designed to highlight professional and amateur artists and to celebrate the creative side of our free programs. This exhibit will be on display now through the end of the year during CDPL’s regular hours of operation. A limited amount of work will be available to purchase through our Circulation department.

The Gallery is excited to celebrate the end of our Bicentennial year with an exhibit that brings attention to the wonderful people and places of Montgomery County. This display includes works that were created to celebrate Shades State Park by the local artists you know and love. This section of the exhibit contains oil paintings, photographs, ceramics, and more.

If you are a frequent visitor of CDPL, then you know that we offer free in-person and Take & Make programs. Several projects created by our staff will be showcased during this exhibit. This includes items made in our nature-based programs, hand-sewn items, fun collages, paper crafts, and many other interesting things. These items are a reflection of what our community can accomplish as dedicated individuals and as a united team.

The Staff Association of CDPL (SACDPL) is sharing fun winter-inspired paintings that they created during their holiday party. The purpose of the SACDPL is to encourage unity among library employees from all departments, to provide a forum of expression concerning work matters, and to provide assistance to co-workers in times of need.

This exhibit also includes a handmade book by local artist T.L. Ridgway. This book was created especially for this community and it is a reflection of her experiences in Montgomery County. It is a one-of-a-kind original poetic story printed on handmade paper. This project was sponsored in part by the Indiana Arts Commission. It will be gifted to the Local History department at CDPL and will be available for one-on-one viewing by appointment beginning early next year.

There is two hundred years’ worth of reasons to celebrate Montgomery County. Visit our gallery during your regular visit to CDPL or after you tour the Festival of Trees. Make the arts a part of your holiday tradition and plant a creative seed in the minds of future generations.
