Martha J. Rogers

June 11, 1936 – March 19, 2023  

Martha Rogers, 86, of Crawfordsville passed away at 2:55 a.m. on March 19, 2023 at the Ben Hur Nursing Home.

Born June 11, 1936 in Crawfordsville, she was the daughter of Clarence Arison Weaver and Esther Ann (Willhite) Weaver.  She first married Everett Phelps and they divorced.  She then married James A. Rogers, Sr. on July 20, 1963.  He passed away Nov. 1, 2011.

Survivors include: son, James “Arnie” (Donna) Rogers, Jr.  of Crawfordsville; step-daughter, Deborah Kay Rush (fiancé- Roger Ratscer) of West End, North Carolina; sister, Norma Poe of Crawfordsville; three grandsons, a granddaughter, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, James A. Rogers, Sr., two sons, Randy J. Phelps and Russell W. Phelps, her parents, sisters, Patricia Hill and Russell Carol Gooding and step-grandson, Matthew Northcutt.

She was a graduate of Marshall High School and worked at R.R. Donnelley and Sons in addition to being a homemaker.     

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 West Wabash, Crawfordsville.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24 with Pastor Gary Edwards officiating.  Burial will be at the New Richmond Cemetery.
