CPD Internet Unit Nabs Man on Child Sex Charge

Investigators with the Crawfordsville Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Unit concluded a five-month investigation involving a resident of Clinton.

A search warrant was executed at the residence earlier this week, and Matthew Newnum was taken into custody without incident. Newnum was later booked into the Vermillion County Jail and formally charged with Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material (Level 6 Felony) and Child Exploitation (Level 5 Felony).

The investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Rockville Police Department ICAC Unit, West Terre Haute Police Department ICAC Unit, Clinton Police Department and the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department.

The Crawfordsville Police Department remains committed to protecting children and pursuing those who exploit them.
