Harmony Theater Brings Oklahoma to Stage

The Harmony Theater, formerly Myers Dinner Theatre, brings Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” to the stage playing Saturday through Aug. 23. This classic musical features music by Richard Rodgers, book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and is based on the play, “Green Grow the Lilacs” by Lynn Riggs. “Oklahoma!” is directed by Austin Russell, with music direction by John Phillips and choreography by Rachael Henry Johnson.

In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.

“Oklahoma!” will boast one of Harmony’s largest casts and features many familiar faces, as well as new talent. Audiences may recognize the following alumni: Mai Hartwich (as Laurey), Susan Smith (as Aunt Eller), Kevin Ray Johnson (as Jud Fry), Rachael Henry Johnson (as Ado Annie), Austin Russell (as Ali Hakim), Don Hart (as Andrew Carnes), Alexia Daniels (as Ike Skidmore) with Noah Johnson, Haley Iverson, Dana Bixler and Sean Stiers in the ensemble. New to the Harmony stage are Kyle Holcomb (as Curly) and Heath Rawls (as Will Parker); featured in the ensemble are Topher Elliott, Madi Daning, Jonah McKinley, Sylvia Muchmore, Kate Mobley, Alex McLemore and Sophia Kilburg.

“Oklahoma!” will feature a food menu filled with guest favorites, as well as new items themed to the production. Selections will include pot roast with carrots and ‘potaters,’ penne pasta with spinach and ‘tomaters,’ ham, fried chicken with gravy, baked beans, creamy peas, steamed broccoli and corn muffins; for dessert, fruit cobblers, fudge brownies and vanilla cake with cream cheese icing. As usual, all meals will begin with house salad, fresh-baked homemade rolls and the signature broccoli salad – a tradition passed down by Richard and Donna Myers.

This beloved American classic musical features well-known song and dance numbers and is a perfect outing for the entire family. Special children’s pricing will be offered for this production: tickets for children ages 4 to 8 are $25 and ages 9-12 are $28, plus taxes and fees. Group rates will apply for parties of eight guests or more.

Tickets for all events may be purchased by calling the Box Office at (765) 798-4902, ext. 2, or by visiting theharmonytheater.com.
