Montgomery County Retired Teachers Met
The Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association met Oct. 13, 2025. Here are the minutes.
President Steve Frees welcomed members to the October 13th Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association meeting held in the Crawfordsville Public Library.
A delicious lunch was provided by Swick’s Catering. Marilyn Spear, Mary Lou Dawald, and Cherlyn Hunter were responsible for the table decorations and Mary Lou Dawald gave the invocation.
Pat Stull talked to the members about the Meals on Wheels program. Meals on Wheels started serving the Crawfordsville community in 1969. This program give 91% of their clients the ability to continue living in their own homes. The quality meals help clients stay healthy. Our local program presently has 5 routes serving 48 clients. Many of the clients are between the ages of 50-90. Many are disabled or cannot drive. Pat thanked Margie Zimmerman and Susie Hildebrand who, combined, had 100 years of service. Isobel Arvin served for over 25 years. The biggest challenge that this program faces is the price of food. They have always been able to serve hot meals and sack meals, but will no longer serve the sack meals. The present price of a hot meal is $4.50 but will have to be raised to $5.50 in January. Several groups have helped with donations such as Food pantries, the Subaru Share the Love program, and the Wabash Sphinx Club, which raised $7,000 for the program. The drivers and donors do special things for the clients during holiday seasons and local companies have been invited to ride with drivers to see how the program works.
President Steve called the business meeting to order. The basket donations are going to the Meals on Wheels program. The minutes which had been sent previously were accepted. Barb Foster gave the treasurer’s report. The report was approved. Kim Nixon reported that her committee gave the Fish food pantry $600 and the Youth Service Bureau $600. This money is interest from the foundation grant that we have. Nancy Buckles mentioned she had sent 3 cards to members this month.
Colleen Page from AMBA told members to make sure to get together with your Medicare supplement policy holder as plans will change this year.
The next meeting will be held November 10. Table decorations will be provided by Karen Patton and Carolyn Fisher and Carolyn will give the invocation. Rex Ryker, superintendent of Crawfordsville Community Schools, will talk about the impact of the State Tax reduction for local public school. Donations will go to the CASA program at the Youth Service Bureau.
