Mayor Barton Appointed to National Policy Makers Council

Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton

Crawfordsville Mayor Todd D. Barton has been appointed to a three-year term on the American Public Power Association’s Policy Makers Council, representing Region Two (East North Central) which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. Barton is one of four representatives serving the region.

“I am honored to represent Region Two and communities like Crawfordsville on the Policy Makers Council,” Barton said. “Public power plays a critical role in providing reliable, affordable electricity while preserving local control, and I look forward to advocating for policies that support our communities.”

The Policy Makers Council is comprised of elected and appointed officials from public power communities across the country and advises APPA on federal legislative and regulatory issues impacting locally owned, not-for-profit electric utilities. Council members advocate on behalf of public power during meetings with members of Congress and their staff in Washington, D.C. and participate in ongoing discussions throughout the year.

The APPA represents more than 2,000 locally owned electric utilities nationwide, serving over 49 million customers. The Policy Makers Council meets twice annually in Washington, D.C. and works to advance issues such as energy reliability, infrastructure investment, emissions reduction, and community-owned power.

Barton’s appointment reflects Crawfordsville’s continued engagement in national conversations and shaping the future of public power.
