Ordination
It’s a ceremony that has been repeated for centuries and last Sunday, St. Stephen the First Martyr Eastern Orthodox Parish in Crawfordsville, played host to its most recent ordination. Seminarian and subdeacon Joseph Goshorn-Maroney was ordained into the diaconate (deacon) by Archbishop Daniel Brum, head Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Midwest (Orthodox Church of America). Fr. Deacon Joseph is originally from Ladoga, and is a second year seminarian at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, which is located about 20 minutes west of Scranton, Penn. The ordination was attended by about 50 friends, family and fellow parishioners. The ceremony was co-celebrated by Fr. Joel Weir of Crawfordsville.
