Honoring the Fallen

On Memorial Day, more than a hundred people came together at the Veterans Memorial Park next to the American Legion Post 72. Despite forecasts calling for rain, a beautiful blue sky greeted those on hand who came to pay respects to the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service of a grateful nation.

A large crowd gathered at Veterans Memorial Park on Memorial Day as officials came together to honor our military heroes. The ceremony used to be held at Oak Hill but has been held at the location next to American Legion Post 72 for the past two years. The ceremony began with an introduction from Post 72 Commander Larry Cooper. After Pastor Mike Whitacre’s invocation, Mayor Todd Barton read the Memorial Day City Proclamation. The guest speaker was Kevin Cobb. A 21 gun salute and the playing of Taps by the Post Honor Guard concluded the solemn event.
