| Preserving Indiana’s Farming TraditionSince our state’s founding more than 200 years ago, Indiana’s strength has been anchored by generations of family farmers. About 94% of Hoosier farms are family-owned or operated, and the agriculture industry contributes more than $35 billion to Indiana’s economy. This is due in large part to family farms that have continued to operate in Indiana. This year, I supported new laws that:Provide tax relief for farmers;Cut red tape for Hoosier farmers;Address the veterinary shortage in Indiana; andStabilize the future of our soybean and pork marketing development programs. Our state’s farming families deserve all the gratitude we can extend for their many years of contribution to Indiana. Maintaining Indiana’s place as a national agricultural leader keeps our communities strong and economy moving. That’s why I will always work to ensure Hoosier farmers have what they need to preserve our state’s farming heritage. |
| Free Fishing Days The first of four Free Fishing Days this year will take place this Sunday when Hoosiers who don’t have a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp can fish in the state’s public waters. These days are a great opportunity to learn how to fish or even introduce a friend or young one to fishing. Additional Free Fishing Days will take place June 6-7 and Sept. 26. |
| Recognizing the Importance of Small Businesses This week is National Small Business Week, which recognizes the hard work and dedication of America’s entrepreneurs and the significant role small businesses play in our economy. In Indiana, small businesses employ 1.2 million Hoosiers and account for nearly 600,000 small businesses. Whether a business is startup or a Main Street shop, small businesses strengthen our community, and I encourage everyone to support their local small business this weekend and beyond. |
| Rockville Resident Wins Historic Preservation Month Photo Contest The Indiana Department of Natural Resources announced this week that Rockville resident George Overpeck won the “Kids” category in the Historic Preservation Month photo contest. George’s photo of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Billie Creek Village in Parke County will be featured on the DNR’s Instagram page this month. Congratulations, George, on this great achievement! You and your family should be very proud. State Sen.
