Comingling Old With New!

The Linden Depot Museum is a 501(c) nonprofit museum located in Linden on SR 231 between Lafayette and Crawfordsville. The depot is 113 years old and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The engine is a replica of an 1837 Norris 4-2-0 steam engine. It was not built for use with live steam. We use a hydraulic motor for power, along with two 12-volt batteries. We recently installed a solar panel to charge the batteries. The solar panel is working well and keeps the batteries charged. We are proud to announce that we have the only solar-powered 1837 “steam” engine in the world. We have combined 1837 and 2023 technology to show that solar power has unlimited uses.

The museum is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12 PM to 5 PM. The admission price of $6 for adults and $1 each for children, includes all museum attractions.

This summer we will host the 3rd Annual Midwest Railroad Fair on Saturday, August 12th from 10 AM to 4 PM. The fair will include railroad exhibitors, railroad vendors, food vendors, and much more. During the fair, we will run our 1837 Norris 4-2-0 steam engine. We will make four trips: 10:30 AM, 12 PM, 2:30 PM, and 3:45 PM. Tickets are SOLD OUT. This is a chance of a lifetime to witness 1837 railroad transportation!

The museum is located at 520 N. Main Street, Linden. We can be reached at 765-427-3630. We look forward to your visit!
