Steven Ray Sams, age 65 of Crawfordsville went to be with his Lord and savior on Friday, October 20, 2023. He was born in Crawfordsville on November 19, 1957 to the late David Earl and Charlene Sue (Darding) Sams.
Steve graduated from Southmont High School in 1976. He married the love of his life, Rhonda Lynn Amstutz, on March 10, 1984. He previously owned his own business, S.R Sams Construction, for 15 years, where he was the Principal. Steve was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 25 years where he served in ministry through music and headed up two building projects.
Steve loved life and he lived it fully. Things that brought him the most joy were his Lord and Savior, his family, his beautiful girls, and his amazing grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed making people laugh. In previous years, Steve enjoyed playing in his band Blackhawk but once he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior he enjoyed singing for the Lord in church. Another great passion of his, when he had a chance, was going deep sea fishing with his friends and family.
Steve is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rhonda; daughters, Stephanie McKinney and Jessica (Caleb) Thayer; eight grandchildren, Kylee (Brody) Mefford, Kasey (JonGray) Harwood, Kelsea (Tanner) Wolf, Drake Arnold, Mackenzie Arnold, Knox Thayer, Georgia Thayer, and Bentley Thayer; five great-grandchildren, Madalyn, Jameson, Ashton, Averie, and Emmy; three siblings, Gary (Pam) Sams, Greg (Ami) Sams, and Diana (Daryl Donahue) Martz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Dennis Sams.
