Waveland Man Killed in Crash

A 65-year-old man from Waveland lost his life in a two-car collision Sunday, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Rex A. Handley was driving south on State Road 47 near County Road 550 South Sunday afternoon around 3:45. Sheriff’s officials say that the 2003 Buick LeSabre Handley was driving crossed the center line and collided with a north-bound 2004 BMW 745i. The result was a head-on collision. Handley was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the BMW, Donald R. O’Conner Jr., a 34-year-old from Crawfordsville, was injured and transported to an Indianapolis area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Three other passengers in the BMW, an adult female and two juveniles, were also taken to hospitals with what police said were non life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said the accident is still under investigation and asks anyone with information to contact Sgt. Jake Watson or Det. Jared Kirby at (765) 362-3740.

In addition to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Crawfordsville Fire Department, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and Wilson’s Towing were on scene.
