Tox-Away Day Saturday
Got a bunch of stuff to get rid of that you’re not quite sure goes in the trash or recycling? Good news, Saturday at Crawfordsville High School – from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. – is Montgomery County Solid Waste Management District’s Tox-Away Day.
This gives residents a chance to dispose of chemicals, fluids, bulbs, batteries, tanks, medical sharps, tires, electronics, appliances and more. However, not everything can go. To be clear, latex paint is water-based and is not hazardous. So set it out and mix it with sand, litter or even shredded newspapers. It should dry in a few days and can be put in the trash (when it’s dry).
Tox-Away Day is not for documents to shred, heavy furniture, asbestos, lab chemicals, explosives, ammunition, firearms, radioactive material or infectious material.
Only residents of Montgomery County are allowed to use the District’s Tox-Away Day event. Regulations prohibit hazardous wastes from other organizations (businesses, churches, schools, non-profits, etc.) from being accepted. Please contact us if you have questions about your eligibility to participate in Tox-Away Day. You can call 361-2623 or email mcswmd@montgomerycounty.in.gov.
There are charges and only cash or check will be accepted. Checks should be made payable to Caldwell Environmental.
