Sen. Deery Preparing for ’26 Legislative Session

Lawmakers will soon begin meeting for interim study committee hearings in order to stay up to date on topics important to Hoosiers.

Why it matters: Interim study committees give legislators the ability to research important topics ahead of the 2026 session.

This year I will serve as a member of several committees, which include: Interim Study Committee on Commerce and Economic Development; Interim Study Committee on Education; Interim Study Committee on Public Health, Behavioral Health, and Human Services; Legislative Council’s Audit and Financial Reporting Subcommittee; and Midwest Higher Education Compact Commission. Hoosiers deserve lawmakers who seek thoughtful, impactful, fact-based legislation.

Interim committees can help push the General Assembly in that direction, which is why I am always eager and grateful to serve on so many study committees.
It was great celebrating with West Lafayette police and fire this week as they broke ground on a new public safety center that will bring those departments together under a single roof.

As West Lafayette grows, so will the need to support our emergency responders as they face new challenges. The city will appropriately be on the front lines, but there are issues that require support from the state and the Indiana General Assembly. Whether it’s supporting rural and volunteer emergency responders or the professionals in growing cities like West Lafayette, I unequivocally stand with our first responders who keep our families, property and communities safe. This is the first and most important role of government.   State Sen. Spencer Deery (R-West Lafayette) represents Senate District 23, which includes Fountain, Parke, Vermillion and Warren counties, and portions of Montgomery and Tippecanoe counties.
