Sen. Deery Shares Update
I joined community members, firefighters and former Lafayette police chief Pat Flannelly at the Wabash Fire Station in West Lafayette to remember the anniversary of 9/11.
For me, the day is a time to mourn. It also is a day to remember to never take our security and prosperity for granted. Both require vigilance and preparation against those who would do us harm.
This year, my heart is extra heavy as we mourn the assassination of Charlie Kirk and other recent examples of political violence that have plagued our nation.
America is a diverse land. While our people hold many different views, I passionately believe that we can still find unity and a common national identity in the founding principles given to us in the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Those principles are what allow us to coexist and thrive as a diverse people. That has been true since the beginning, and it is even more true today. Please join me in praying for the Kirk family and for our nation. Please join me in finding new ways to humanize and love all Americans, especially those you disagree with. Finally, please join me in praying for the peace we felt before 9/11 and the unity we felt after.
