New County VSO Officer is Nick Kashon

Welcome to 2026. My name is Nick Kashon and I am the newly appointed Veterans Service Officer for Montgomery County. Mr. Joe Ellis has retired after 12 years in this position and is starting to enjoy a very well-deserved retirement. I know that I have massive footsteps to follow in, but I will do my best to continue the outstanding commitment to our veterans that Joe has done.

This past month we had 70 calls into our office and 19 visitors. Our DAV vans were used to take 24 veterans to various appointments in our area.

On Jan. 8 I will be at the Crawfordsville American Legion from 1 to 4 p.m. I will be at the VFW on the 15th from 1 to 3 p.m. and on the 17th will be at the DAV meeting at 11. As always, we have appointments available at our office in the county building.

Attorney Dan Taylor will continue to offer wills to veterans at no cost. He can be reached to schedule an appointment at (765) 361-9680. If you do not have one yet, or need to update an existing one, pleas call to schedule so your assets can be properly distributed at your time of death.

Tim Timmons from The Paper continues to offer a free online edition subscription to The Paper for veterans. It publishes three days a week and will be emailed to you. Contact him at ttimmons@thepaper24-7.com.

Jan. 11 is National Medal of Honor Day, the highest award presented to a member of our military.

Office hours are 8-4:30 daily. Phone is (765) 361-4133. Scheduling an appointment works best as I am in and out of the office for various reasons.
