FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a robotics community that prepares young people for the future through a suite of inclusive, team-based robotics programs. On Dec. 11, the Pretzel Pulverizers, a team of 10, local home schooled students ages 9-14, competed in the FIRST LEGO League Indiana State Championship at the University of Indianapolis. Their robot, Pretzilla, placed sixth out of 32 teams in the robot game portion of the competition.  The team was also awarded the Motivate Award, which celebrates a team that embraces the culture of FIRST LEGO League through team building, team spirit and displayed enthusiasm.  In addition to the robot game, the team was judged on their robot design, the incorporation of the FIRST Core Values into their team activities and their innovation project based on this year’s theme, Cargo Connect.  They learned how cargo is transported, sorted, and delivered to destinations, then identified a problem associated with the theme and proposed a solution to the problem.  Members of the team, coached by Robin Fowler and Karen Thada, include Levi Fowler, Ezekiel McCulloh, Luka Fowler, Malachi Dickinson, Peter Miller, Jameson Wilson, Cillian Wilson, Wesley Chastain, Tristan McCulloh and Jacob Miller.
