Mayor Proclaims Today ‘Bishop Clarence Lee – Remembrance Day’

Crawfordsville Mayor Todd Barton has proclaimed today to be “Bishop Clarence Lee – Remembrance Day” in honor of Bishop Clarence Lee, who established the One Way Pentecostal Apostolic Church in Crawfordsville. Bishop Lee, his first wife Betty Jean and their 15 children, as well as his second wife Vede, were a fixture in the Crawfordsville community years. Bishop Lee passed on May 1st, 2022.

Bishop Lee’s viewing is scheduled to be held Friday, May 6th, 2022 from 4 – 7 p.m. at 308 S. Green Street, Crawfordsville, In 47933. A Homegoing Service is scheduled for Saturday May 7th, 2022 at 1905 Lebanon Road, Crawfordsville, In 47933 with a shorter viewing scheduled for 11 a.m. The Service is scheduled to begin promptly at 12 p.m.

WHEREAS, Clarence Isaac Lee was born in Indianapolis to Clarence Isaac and Lillian Lucretia Lee on October 1, 1937 and was the oldest of seven children; and

WHEREAS, He married Betty Jean Mosley on June 22, 1957 and moved their family to Crawfordsville in 1973; and

WHEREAS, He and Betty built a life in Crawfordsville, where they raised their family and worked tirelessly on behalf of their church family and greater community; and

WHEREAS, He was a loving father to his twelve sons and three daughters, along with being a loving grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather; and

WHEREAS, in 1987 Bishop Clarence Lee established the One Way Pentecostal Apostolic Church and served as a spiritual leader in the community, positively impacting the lives of thousands of Crawfordsville residents; and

WHEREAS, as a church and community leader, Bishop Lee contributed greatly to Crawfordsville and had an immeasurable impact on the community; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Lee stood guard over our children as a school crossing guard, serving as a protector, mentor and source of encouragement to countless children, each and every day; and

WHEREAS, Following the death of his beloved Betty in 2003, Bishop Lee married the lovely Veda M. Miller in April of 2007; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Lee set the bar high and served as an example of contributing to the community through compassionate leadership and unwavering faith; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Clarence Lee openly proclaimed his love of Crawfordsville, and our community is undoubtedly a better place because of his contributions.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Todd D. Barton, do hereby proclaim that Saturday, May 7, 2022 shall be proudly observed as “Bishop Clarence Lee – Remembrance Day” in the City of Crawfordsville. I strongly encourage all citizens to reflect on the contributions to our community of Bishop Clarence Lee and honor of his remembrance.
