Bernice Snellenbarger
Apr. 9, 1927 – Nov. 1, 2021
Bernice Snellenbarger, 94, of Lafayette & formerly of New Richmond, passed away on Nov. 1, 2021.
She was born on April 9, 1927 in Cherokee, Ala. to the late Albert & Ida Saylors.
She married William H. Snellenbarger on June 3, 1953, who preceded her in death in 2014.
Mrs. Snellenbarger and her husband, Bill, met and married in Georgia, when Bill was stationed at Dobbins Air Force Base. They moved to New Richmond, in 1954, where they lived and raised their three boys, Brent, Mike and Rex. Mrs. Snellenbarger loved baking, and always had something prepared when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit. She also loved to crochet, and her family has been the proud recipients of many of her creations.
She enjoyed watching sports, especially Purdue basketball and major league baseball. Fortunately, she did get to experience a Chicago Cubs’ World Series win in her lifetime! She also was very proud to be part of the crowd scenes depicted in the movie “Hoosiers” which was partially filmed in New Richmond.
She never did lose her delightful southern accent, despite living in Indiana most of her life. She had a charming laugh, which could always bring a lift to your spirits. Mrs. Snellenbarger was an active member of Eastern Star for many years, and attended the former New Richmond United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Brent (Jean) Snellenbarger of Brunswick, Ga., Mike (companion Alisa) Snellenbarger of Lafayette and Rex (Ofelia) Snellenbarger, of Lafayette; grandchildren, Jenny (Michael) Brumback of Jacksonville, Fla., Kristi (Tom) Greenoe of Moncks Corner, S.C., Michelle (Mike) Snellenbarger-Canada of Lafayette and Nathan Snellenbarger of Lafayette; and six great-grandchildren, Garrett, Ellana, Sofina, Evan, Josie and Jade.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Snellenbarger; one brother, Ernest Saylors; and one sister, Madeline Williams.
Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home in Linden from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. on Monday Nov. 8, with Pastor Clint Fink officiating. The interment will be in New Richmond Cemetery.
