Make a Difference and Mentor a Child

This is the third article in a series of articles to profile the youth on the JUMP waiting list. The purpose of these articles is to help get the word out that there are kids in the community waiting to be matched with a mentor. These are good kids whose families just want them to have the opportunity to spend one on one time with a positive role model. Kids who have many mentors in their lives are more likely to stay in school, get a higher education and to not get in trouble with the law. It is a simple thing but so important to these kids.

This profile is about a boy we will call Conner. Conner is an 11-year-old boy who lives with his grandparents. Conner’s grandmother describes him as a kind and caring boy. He has a lot of friends and is on student council at school. His grandmother said he likes to do many things in his spare time. He likes to read, do crafts, play with Legos, and go birding with his grandpa. He loves being outdoors and is good building things with his hands. He makes good grades in school and has excellent behavior there. The only thing he sometimes struggles with is Math.

Conner states that he likes school and his favorite classes are science and history! He stated that when he grows up, he would like to be a crop duster. For fun, Conner likes to do origami, art, drawing, reading, play soccer and football with his friends, listen to music, golf, fish and ride bicycles. If he could do anything he wanted on a Saturday, it would be to go golfing or fishing. So far, he has only played miniature golf. He went camping once and really liked that, as well.

If Conner had a mentor, he would like to be with someone artsy, energetic and funny. He thinks it would be fun to go bowling, fishing, hiking, camping or doing art with a mentor.

Conner is a very sweet kid and easy to talk to. He is an active kid who has many interests and would be a great match for anyone! If you are a male or a married couple who are interested in mentoring Conner please contact Jill Hampton @362-0694 ext. 103 or email [email protected].
