Summer Reading At CDPL
Greetings to all readers and “readers to be”! CDPL’s Summer Reading Program for Youth and Adults started on May 23rd, and this year we are test driving a new reading platform called Beanstack. While you may still work on your reading using a paper log, we’d like to invite all to experience the opportunity to earn online badges for reading, write book reviews, and add friends to your reading group.
To register online for a free account, go to cdpl.beanstack.com. You can create your account using a computer or download the Beanstack app on your android or iOS device. Adults who prefer a paper format may drop by the Reference Desk to log their reading time or call us at (765)362-22-42, ext. 117. Children and Teens may stop at the Youth Services desk for all their information needs.
This year the Adult Reading Program theme is “World of Wonders.” The theme celebrates our participation in the state-wide reading program “One State-One Story” supported by the Indiana Humanities organization. After registering for the Adult Program, you must read and log a minimum of 60 minutes a week to enter our weekly prize raffles. Your minutes should be entered by 11:59 pm each Sunday and raffles are held on Mondays for the duration of the program.
At the end of the program, we will be doing a Grand-Prize drawing. To earn a ticket for the Grand Prize drawing, you must complete our “World of Wonders Reading Challenge.” The Reading Challenge includes 6 categories of readings that you must complete by July 12th to enter the final raffle: Something that inspires feelings of admiration in you; something that you find beautiful; something that you want or wish for; something that surprises you; something that involves themes of the unexpected; and something that is unfamiliar to you. There are recommended reading lists on our website for every category.
You may also earn extra raffle tickets for weekly prize entries by completing other activities. From Art class videos to in-house and outdoor programs, we will be offering activities for various interests. Also, there will be a limited number of kits for take-and-make activities such as “Microbes in a Macro-Cosmic World”, “Oh, Yes, You Can!” watercolor series, and more. Stop by the Reference desk or register online to see the full calendar of activities we have planned for you this summer. The Summer Reading Program runs from May 23rd to July 12th.
If you have any questions, contact us by phone at (765)362-2242, ext. 117 or by email at [email protected]. We can’t wait to see you at the library this summer!
