Veterans Day Parade Set for Downtown This Year

For the first time in a while, Montgomery County veterans organizations are teaming together to organize a Veterans Day parade.

According to VFW Commander Gary Bell, this year’s event will take place on Nov. 11, and will be the product of a joint effort between the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the VFW.

“We’ll have the service at 11 o’clock at the Marie Canine Plaza and then we’ll start the parade right after,” Bell told The Paper. “We want to get the community involved. We’d like to see the downtown merchants paint their windows with a patriotic theme and we’d like to get others involved, too.”

Bell said that if a group or organization wants to put a float or an entry in the parade, they can do so by contacting him at 366-3638.

Bell is in his third year as Commander of the VFW. He is also a Past-Commander with the American Legion and the DAV.
