Catherine Elaine Airey

Catherine Elaine Airey, nee Ault, age 101, Crawfordsville, formerly of Linden, passed away at Wellbrooke Senior Living Facility on May 8, 2023.
She was born June 16, 1921 at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of Ansel Ault and wife Catherine nee Wilson. Mrs. Airey graduated from St. James High School in 1939. As a young woman, Kit worked for the Hudson Bay Company as a secretary in addition to volunteering during WWII as a nurse’s aide to assist wounded soldiers returning from the war.
In 1947, she was united in marriage to Jeffrey Airey at Sturgeon Creek, Winnipeg. Kit worked as Jeffrey attended and graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario. Jeff and Kit moved to the states in 1951, first in Richmond, IN before settling in the Linden community to begin a long, large animal veterinarian career. Kit was a loving homemaker for their six children and worked part-time at the Linden Library for several years.
Kit was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers (George, Ansel & Ian) and 2 sisters (Helen & Elaine).
She is survived by daughters, Janice (Tom) Waskom of Paragon, IN, Linda Airey of Crawfordsville, IN, Carol (Ken) Bandy of Brownsburg, IN, Christine (Christopher) Oppy of Renton, WA, and Cathy (Tim) Holtermann of Washington, MO; 1 son, Keith (Joan) Airey of Crawfordsville, IN. She has 13 grandchildren, Julie Waskom, Robert Waskom, Lindsey Zurawski, Kal Airey, Andrew Airey, Chelsea Airey, Katie Airey, Claire McIlvain, Clay Oppy, Grace Oppy, Daniel Holtermann, Anna Holtermann, Alex Holtermann and 9 great-grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen and interment will be held at a later date at the Linden Cemetery. There will be a family celebration of life at a later date.

The family was served by Hunt & Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville.
